The firm was founded in 1943 by Melvin "Berl" Stallard. He took on two partners in 1950, Joe Dent and Steve Cole, the firm was then named Stallard, Cole and Dent. Later in 1962, the firm changed its name to Stallard and Dent. In 1975, Berl and Joe sold the business to its new partners; Dorothy Doran, Hazel Stabler, Lynne Lufborough, and Don Hartman. Berl retired that year, and Joe retired in 1982. The firm changed its name once again in 1981, to its now current name, Stallard & Associates, P.C. Hazel retired in 2000; and a new partner, Wendee Essex, was added in 2001. Wendee has been working for the firm since 1998. After decades of service to the firm, Dorothy retired in 2004 and Lynne retired in 2010. Don Hartman retired the summer of 2015 after 47 tax seasons with the firm. Tad Torgerson, an employee since 2013, was added as a partner in 2016. In the spring of 2026 Wendee retired, with Tad remaining as the sole ownership of Stallard and Associates, P.C.
